Hi
I've been quoted £300 + vat per window (then £80 on top of that if sill replacement req) to renovate my sash and case windows (standard Glasgow tenement size).
Does this sound about right?

Hi Glaswegian,
What does this include? For instance to take out sashes ,re-cord, add weights where necessary,re-new the part beads (beading between the sashes)ease and adjust can be about 4 hrs work and about £20 on materials. If the quote also includes fitting draught excluders and replacing any broken panes of glass then its probably 8 hrs per window and total materials of £40-00 plus glass.... Sounds a bit high to me.......
Sill replacement for £80-00 is good if its Hardwood and done correctly as theres some real bodgers out there.Have a good look to make sure the Outside linings (outside upright timber)and Pulley stiles(upright timber that part bead slots into) don't end up with lots of filler in them where they meet the new sill...0 -
Hi Glaswegian,
about right if its gonna include a draft proofing system, and all new hardware.
As mentioned below most of the costs are labour, so most fitters will be open to negotiations - if the job is right!
Casement windows should be a bit cheaper, around £100 - 150 per opening window.
BUT £80 is way too cheap for a new cill... I charge £225 for a proper job so I'm guessing its not a full replacement. Make sure that they change the outer linings and pulley stiles to around 400mm up and they use a hardwood cill (meranti / sapele)
Remember VAT should be at 5% if it is on a residential property.
Hope this helps...

Any reason why you would only replace 400mm up for the outside lining and not replace all of it?
Repairs to existing windows is 20% vat payable not 5% Its 5% vat on draughtproofing materials....0 -
Those prices are ok. I agree that the sill replacement at £80 is a bit cheap. I charge around £150 plus for that and around £250-£300 for renovation and draught proofing of one pair of sashes in Devon and Cornwall. My website for South West Sash Windows is at sashwindowssw.co.uk0
