    Hi Sam

What is the employer name? Wondered if they are reputable or a front for a data-mining scammer business. You have disclosed a lot of information through them, and its like they are avoiding employing anyone.

Have you ever had a problem with a previous CRB check? If no, have any major change of circumstance occured since? not everyone is on the Electoral Register so I cannot see this as that significant.

I hate to say it but unless its a dream job with a bumpy start; its probably not worth it. Sign back on to ensure you have an income. If JCP ask, say the job offer was revoked. If they request more information say there was a problem with the CRB check and it was a conditional element of the job offer.

Make this a lesson, never sign off until you actually start work! This way you still will have money coming in.

You may have as little as a day or two 'gap' in previous addresses. We once had one returned because the twit who completed it missed out her middle name!!!***

Used to be able to look on the CRB website to check progress with the reference number on the CRB (when you go to do your form again, jot it down), name, DoB & ref no. was enough for you to check it's progress on-line (no detailed info, just where it was in the process).

Nowadays it looks like you must phone or email, via the prospective employer - but that doesn't mean you can't ring CRB and at least give it a try yourself.

Correct for England, shouldn't make a difference if your company have used a 'go between', it ends up in the same place.
Seen it all, done it all, can't remember most of it.

    Hi WPN

I have never had a CRB check done before, not got a criminal record either, did move around a little bit in the last few years, but always paid council tax and assumed I was on the electoral register.
It is a very large company from what I gather but I dont really want to name them.
You have said exactly how I feel, I guess if I was actually to start I think things will always be wrong now ie wages etc....
I am in a lucky position I have cash to fall back on but one of the girls starting had to get a job for the month we had to wait until the start date so maybe she has no income now because of this messing around.
Its now 11.00 am and still nothing off them, so much for the call Friday I kept the day free to go a re-fill the forms in:o

    thanks

Just for reference - you can backdate your signing off date as well as specify a date in the future (not to exceed your next signing on date though obviously). You can actually start work officially today whilst signed on, while filling in the ES40JP booklet dated the PREVIOUS day and be fine. This works best fi you aren't due a payment for a while.

You only show MMYYYY, so it could be that if you moved out on 31st July and moved in on 1st August they are 'seeing' a gap where none exists. In which case change one of them so that they are both 072010 or 082010 or whatever. The checking is not exact to the day!

Ah, but the person checking should have noticed that if they were shown a driving licence or any other documentation showing their middle name. On a driving licence, if you have a middle name then the licence number will show the middle initial, so we are trained to check this.

We had one sent back because the person hadn't put their middle name. They didn't actually HAVE a middle name, except one they'd had to invent for their driving licence application. It had started when they were at college: they used initials to sign in and out, and there were two people with the same initials. So this person had 'invented' a middle initial, and started signing "J S Smith" as well as using the initials JSS.

So, they filled in an application for a driving licence, and that was rejected because they'd signed J S Smith but not given a middle name. Put on the spot, they invented one. But because it wasn't really their name, they often forgot to use it on forms! :rotfl:
