You can also make payments from a Web Saver account, IASA account, bill payment from your own bank account, paying in over the branch counter etc.

I agree that it seems a backwards step, but you still don't have to leave your home to pay the bill. Just send it from your own bank account.

Take a look at the back of your statement. It gives lots of ways that you can pay without having a Halifax bank account:

Direct Debit - from any UK bank account.
Online - "through your own bank or the Halifax website https://www.halifax.co.uk/online if you have a current account with us".
    Post - cheque
    In branch - cheque/cash
Standing order - again, from any UK bank account
Telephone banking with Halifax or with another bank.

You cannot now pay by debit card on the Halifax website, but instead need to make the payment by going to the bank that the payment is coming from and entering the sort code, account number and reference.

Becuase they are upgrading their banking systems.

It's no effort at all to set them up as a new payee in online banking.

All the details you need are on your statement.
