Hi all,
Ive been having an absolute mare with my car recently. 4 weeks ago it started acting up. Took it to a garage (which was actually recommended) and they solved the problem within a day. I was left £250 lighter (none of which had been quoted) but hey ho job done at least my car was fixed.
MOT was due two weeks later and after a great sales speech from the receptionist about the courtesy car being small and east to drive (similar to a ka) i decided to change my Mot test to this garage.
When my car went in all they had were huge transit vans grrr. Ok annoying for me having to pay for taxis but not their fault i dont feel
comfortable driving big vans.
Car failed MOT on few minor things. Work to be done two days later so parts can be oredered. I also asked for a new tyre as my spare had been used on flat in the week (bad week). She asked which type of tyre I wanted, i asked for prices, she said she'd let me know. When I asked how much it would cost for mot I was told they'd let me know.
Two days later (and still no cars available to hire!) my car goes back in. I get offered a lift home which was an improvement and told i'll be called later.
Phone call at 1pm tells me work is done. No quotations whatsoever. Pay for taxi back to garage to pick up car.
I pick up car, they give me MOT certificate and tell me as they're backed up with work they'll post me my bill and i can pay over the phone. I ask how much im expecting to pay and am told the parts and mot are £120 but the man who works out the cost of labour is 'stuck in clacton'.
Take car home. Over the day i notice large rattling sound coming from rear. Sounds like a flat tyre but tyre is fine.
Take car back into garage. Bank hol so only one mechanic. Says it might not be re-aligned properly. Puts it on ramp and it doesnt sort it. He says it could be one of the new rubber bushes is faulty or could be shock absorber. Cant tell with out someone else.
Cant fit me in for 8 days because of all the bank holiday weekend but told its safe to drive.
Took car back in this morning and want to know my rights before i pick my car up later.....
If the fault only started since the car left thd garage surely its their mistake?
Should i be charged labor/parts?
Should i be given a quote before work is carried out.
MOT was 2 weeks ago and still not received bill so not paid for work yet.
Shock sbsorbers have never been mentioned to me before so it cant surelt have just happened to break as it left the garage!!

They've over laymanised everything, I can't quite work out from your description what the hell is going on. Also the time line is all confusing and !!!!!!, it's like you've done a brain dump on the screen.
Sudden rattling from the rear, my first thought would be exhaust rubber mount broken (not major at all). But if you'd just had new tyre, it could be wheel balancing wasn't done OR they left the wheel nuts loose (happened to a friend once, sounds terrible and is highly dangerous).“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Haha i apologise, think i needed the vent! Ive confused myself with the timeline too!
The rear wheels werent changed so wont be that. I had two rubber bushes (?) fitted that was all.
My main cincern us that they might charge me for something they may have caused.0 -
Well.... if they MOT passed a car which was making those noises as soon as it leaves the garage, then they can't claim it's something else, passing a faulty car on MOT could get them into a whole lot of trouble... You need to make sure they know you know that.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”
