This is a long shot and would be grateful for any help.
My 11 year old spent yesterday doing her school project on microsoft office word 2007 which is on my computer but I never purchased licence key for as I use microsoft works. She just closed the box that asked for product key and did her project and saved etc. I did ask her at different times during the day to keep saving as she went along but stupidly never actually checked to see what programme she had used . She used this because it is what she uses at school !!
Anyway went this morning to open the saved file and it opens ok but there is no data at all in it.
Is there anyway of retrieving it or would we need to start from scratch.
I am thinking this is maybe because i have not purchased it ??

Maybe she didn't save it or do a search on the comp for all files opened/accessed/created yesterday.0

I have button bottom left and searched from there for file with China but where can I search for files used yesterday ?
eta - found where i can search for yesterday - gives name of file with (2) after it - thinking that means another file somewhere but will only open an empty one.
Could be a long night helping her redo it0 -
Make sure auto save is turned on and name and save the file before you start writing, I'd also save every so often just to be safe.0

A few years back I had a similar problem, and I managed to recover what I'd done (or most of it, at least) by finding the temporary files that Word Autosaves documents as.
Try the six steps given in this article:

Went back into microsoft office and looked at the save button - realising now it says disabled - obviously because I havent purchased it. Think she has learned a sorry lesson. Have promised her I will type it up for her if she dictates to me. - works of course.
Thanks for your help!0 -
Download Open Office, and load the file in that. It should work fine, although you may have to reformat it slightly.0

Forget about Works. Use Open Office...and stop upsetting your daughter.0
