Help! PC doesn't see external hard drive.

    By scanning with a virus scanner.

    copying infected files from a to b won't infect a machine, running them will

    Only a little faster, did you do it all?
    Before it was a mixture of OK to very very slow; it now appears OK all the time.

    We're keeping most of our data on the C drive, but the precious things (like photos) are on CDs, the new drive and the old drive. I'll remove some of the music as it is always available from outside.

    I've been Money Tipped!
    Fast forward a few months and the same happens; before we went on holidays, it was fine, now it doesn't work.
    The PC doesn't see the external drive; it ackowlegdes it when first switched on but switches it off within a few seconds.
    The PC is running OK and the procedure in the sticky has been applied.
    Any ideas?
