What sort of tool do I need for this? (image attached)

I need to take something apart, and it looks like I need some sort of tool to remove something that looks similar to a screw but isn't. I'm not a DIY expert and probably haven't explained it well, but I was wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction based on the image that I've attached?

That is a " anti tamper " head designed to stop people dismantling the assembly! I doubt you will be able to buy a tool to undo it.

Looking at the photo if you get an old screwdriver and file a small slot in the blade that should do the trick.

Ah, that'll be why I couldn't budge it then. :rotfl: Thanks a lot for that. :money: Has rather thwarted what I needed to do, but at least I won't spend all day in B&Q looking for a tool that doesn't exist!

Just noticed screwfix do a security bit set that looks like it has the correct tool. Search for 71249 on the screwfix website.

Yes, the tool sets for removing anti tamper screws are readily available, and at about a tenner (I think. Bought mine at Argos, but ages ago.) are a very useful tool to invest in as you may encounter a number of anti tamper screws over the years.
I very rarely use mine, but when I need one?....... Covers about eight different sorts of anti tamper screws I think.

    Hi.

I might be wrong but.... anti tamper screws have a central pip.
That looks like it's been punched to spread the screw into the threads to stop it unscrewing at all.

There are quite a few types. Manufacturers own options on whether they use a common one, or create their own unique one. Haven't found any of those yet though.

Haven't come across the one you quote, but surely once a screw is locked in mechanically, it's no longer a screw, it's a rivet.

'Anti tamper' means one that can't be removed with the plain flat or crosshead (Phillips or Posidrive) screwdrivers.
