Provisional Lincence help.

Hi,

I'm hoping for a bit of help please as I'm a bit confused about how I'm going to apply for my Provisional Licence. I'll try to keep it simple as poss :o

I have a provisional licence in my old address... failed my test first time, got pregnant and didn't bother trying again (12 years ago)

I had my name last name changed at a solisitors about 10 years ago. I've always used this name because it's my Dad's name and he got custody of me when I was a baby. My birth certificate is obviously in my old name (that I never used apart from passports)

To re-apply for my licence and have the address changed I need a passport (which I don't have) or a birth certificate. How do I apply for my licence without either of these to have my licence in my proper name (the new name)?

I have a document from the solisitor but will that be enough? If I rang the licence people and explained would they understand what I'm on about? I'm praying it's not an 0845 number lol.

:)

If you had it changed at a solicitors by deed poll then send them your birth certificate and a certified copy of the the name change deed poll. Thats what I had to do when I got mine.

Is your 12 year old licence an old style paper one?

If so, simple write your new name and address on the back of your licence in the green boxes provided and send it alone to DVLA. They will return it to you at your new address with the necessary forms to apply for your first photocard licence. By doing this, you will satisfy the legal requirement to notify the DVLA at once of your new address. Up to this point, there is no charge.

Once you have the forms, fill them in and enclose your proof of name change. This is where you will have to enclose a fee for your first photocard.
