vendor has no certificates for new boiler

Hi, I am coming up to exchange on a house, but have just found out the new boiler comes with no documentation.(vendor says she cant remember who installed it, or any information regarding its instilation). On the first viewing we were told that the boiler was less than a year old. survey came back saying it was incorectly installed. what can be done to make the boiler legal? would a gas safe certificate be enough?

Only if issued by the original installer, no one else except building controls can certify it in situ.

Your other and best alternative is to get a proper gas safe fitter to physically re-install it and then certify it.

Finally, you can get indemnity insurance for a non-certified installation, but as you have been told already that it has been incorrectly fitted then this doesn't seem like a good option.

There is another thread on boiler indemnity insurance, try looking there?

That's very odd, when I had my new boiler installed over a year ago, I had a certifcate for it.

The bit about being incorrectly installed doesn't sound very good.

Make it a condition of sale they get it sorted, pay for a plumber to fix whatever is wrong. Tell them that you expect full gas safe certification. Leave it to them, but make sure they understand you will walk away unless they either discount the price or get it sorted. If a bodger has installed the boiler, you may have problems with your pipework too.

We inherited a house with atrocious plumbing and have just outlaid 5K to put it right.

If you know what the exact problem is, you could get a rough quote off of https://www.diynot.com on their plumbers forum.

Anyone who can't remember who installed their dodgy boiler a year ago has probably been sucking in CO fumes for the past 12 months and has has their brain cells damaged.

I would demand they produce a gas safety certificate for you to proceed as poppysarah says anyone who cant remember under a year ago who installed a boiler has damaged brain cells! I can remember who did ours and that was 5 years ago and have had it serviced regularly. Sounds to me like a botched DIY job and i personally wouldnt proceed until they sort it... lord only knows what else is botched!

Nothing odd about it at all, plenty of people pay to have boilers installed illegally or DIY. It's all about the money.

At the risk of their health / lives.:(

Silly thing to do, in fact dangerous, in my opinion but then I'm only a Boiler Engineer ;)
