Council Tax help re credits

Hi, i wonder if any one could help. my dad is 79 and currently on an interest only mortgage. i am looking at trying to reduce his payments, but the only way to do it is to transfer the property into my name and take out a mortgage for the balance,which my dad is happy to do may i add.

what i would like to know is, would doing it this way effect my dads council tax credit? would he lose his full credit? or would he continue to receive his full entitlement? can some one make sense of what i have wrote and maybe give me some advice. Thanks in advance

    As long as the living arrangements remain the same everything should be ok.

    Council tax is based on who lives at the property rather than who owns it.
    Forums can be/are a good guide to entitlement and it is good practice to back it up with clarification from the relevant department/specialist with written confirmation to safeguard yourself.

    You may want to check with the council before you do anything. Can you get a mortgage on the property without your name being on the deeds to the property? If not, then the council may see this as your dad releasing some equity in the property and deem him to have that money as capital, and therefore, be ineligible for the benefits he is receiving.

    just make sure your dad doesnt have to go into care as the council can come after you for the fees as it would be seen as deprivation of assets. if you live with him can you not just pay his mortgage for him?
