hi there
i'm looking for a good well priced baby monitor, are the video monitors worth the extra? Tomy don't get reception in our house for some bizarre reason but we have never had a problem with the other brands we have used on the other two!

We had the Tomy Walkabout in one house and although it had a constant low hum/buzz it worked fine. Then we moved house/area and the thing wouldnt work without the most horrendous squealy buzz!
We bought a BT digital monitor (£30 off ebay but I think £45 new from amazon.co.uk) and it is absolutely brilliant! Even at the top of our 100ft garden you can hear the little un breathing! Idont have any experience of the video monitors but if I had the cash I think It'd be great especially to see what theyre getting up to as toddlers in their room LOL!
P.S the BT digital also has a talkback button where you can talk to your baby..although this freaked her out at first (she must have thought mummy had turned into a monitor!) she loves it now and its great for calming her without having to go upstairs (although of course that doesnt always work!)0 -
I've got a tomy monitor and it's good most of the time,...the only annoying thing is that in summer, if the tempreture gets too hot (which it did regularly this summer) the monitor just beeps at you so you have to turn it off. just check that out when you buy one.0

I have a BT Digital monitor and they are the best monitors I've had - the worst was the Tomy ones. They are cheaper on ebay but i think you can get them in argos aswell
As mentioned the BT talkback button is really useful too,
claire xWife to a great husband and mum to 4 fantastic kids 9,8,4,3 they drive me mad but I would do anything and give everything for my family :grinheart

i have to admit the bt digital one was appealing to me. but hubby likes the video idea, and i think it would be handy as babe gets older0

We have a BT digital monitor. Our child's bedroom is downstairs and ours is upstairs so we still use it even though she is 4 years old. It is absolutely brilliant - one of our best buys. Excellent value and as previously posted you can hear child breathing on it and there is NO background hiss/buzz etc at all.
You can also turn sensitivity down so you don't hear every breath if you wish. The talk back is also useful with older child as if they call out you can reply without getting out of bed! When our daughter wakes up in the morning she calls out...."can I come up for a cuddle". We look at the clock and say yes or no depending on the time!!
It also recharges when on the base so you don't need to buy batteries for it. Much better than previous monitor we had (that actually cost more!). If you keep it on the base in your bedroom over night it will then run anywhere in the house or garden the next day during daytime naps or evening when you are in the garden or sitting room etc without running out of power so you don't have to keep plugging it in.
If my four year old has a friend over and they are playing in her room I can switch it on to make sure world war three is not breaking out whilst I'm in another part of the house (its a big barn conversion!) and I can talk to them through the talk back if needed!
We bought ours from Boots with advantage card points.
100% recommended!MTC NMP Membership #62 - made it back to size 12 after my children & I'm staying here!0
