4 weekly rent?

Options
We get paid 4 weekly and it would be much better for us to pay our rent 4 weekly rather then monthly.

How likely would it be that the landlord goes for this and how would we go about it?

Just ask and explain why. To be fair, if you have signed a fixed-term tenancy agreement which calls for the rent to be paid monthly in advance then that is what you should do. You are in danger of making things extremely complicated for your landlord by paying four-weekly.

Is it impossible for you to set aside funds from your pay for when the rent becomes due? By asking to pay four-weekly you are in danger of sending a very strong signal to your landlord that you may be a poor money-manager. This could have a bearing on whether they offer to extend your tenancy at the end of the fixed-term. I'd issue you with a Section 21 by return

We always pay on time it would just be a bit easier for pay 4 weekly and have the rent go out as soon as pay goes in.

I agree that it would be easier for you but it would be less convenient for the landlord. Presumably the contract you signed meant you agreed to pay the rent in full when it fell due. Not doing this sends signals which you may not find helpful to you in the long-term. However, I am not your landlord, so I'm not the one you need to convince on your financial reliability...

The landlord has just stopped using our letting agent and wants to set up a private agreement between us so we thought it would be a good time to bring up the subject as contract would be changing anyway

Why will the contract be changing? The fact that the LL has decided to cease employing an agent has no relevance to your contract with the LL.

As for your '4 weekly' option, I have no doubt that if you offer to pay the same rent as at present but every f weeks instead of every calender month, your LL will be only too please to accept the extra income!

I was hoping to change the payments to match the 4 weekly status lol

if you really want to do this, you can set up a separate bank account for specifically for rent, set up a standing order that transfers the rent amount in straight after payday, then set up another standing order that pays your rent monthly.
Each year you will have 1 extra payments worth in this rent account that you can use for Christmas etc!
