I've had a bank credit into my account today for £196.44 - which seems an odd amount from 'Standard Finance', the bank say they can't see any more information than me.
I'm expecting a payment of about £40 more than that from my old work - but 'Standard Finance' is nothing like the name! Google brings up all manner of scams and pay day loan companies.
Has any one heard of them at all? I'm not sure if I'm worrying unnecessarily!?! It seems odd that I'm worried about a payment going into my account rather than out!

Put it on one side and forget about it.0

No! Don't "forget about it"!!
DO NOT spend the money and query it with your bank again, in writing (keep all copies of letters and emails, in case of trouble later-on). If you never hear anything further - unlikely but, technically, possible. As to the "put it to one side" - that is what you should do. Then, if and when the bank realise that, because they pay peanuts they get monkeys (who are capable of many and varied mistakes), and they take (be warned - if they've made a mistake - they WILL take and not 'ask for') the money back - you will not find yourself suddenly 'out of pocket'.
Honesty is always, where your bank (despite how they conduct themselves in the City or offshore) is concerned, the best policy. Cover yourself, above anything else.
Good luck to you. xx0
