Meter with 3 readings

Recently purchased a house that has an electric meter (digital) that gives 3 seperate readings. I assume thats for economy 7? I'm going to be installing gas c/heating. I've spoken to EON (dual supplier) who say the meter dosen't need to be changed & it wont affect my bill. Can anyone please confirm if this is correct? Thanks

The 3 registers may be day, night, total. Suppliers dont need to change meters to go from E7 to 24/7 unless their billing system cant cope with adding the 2 readings together to get the total consumption.

Hi muscoka - As has been posted, when a customer installs Gas CH in a house that has ECO7 heating, some suppliers may opt to save money by leaving the ECO 7 meter in place and add the Day & Night readings together to issue bills on 'Standard' meter tariffs.

This is not a good idea - Your Standard meter bills will be dependant on a just note on your account with Eon, but the Central Registry of meters will still have your house recorded as having an ECO7 meter.

When you Switch to another supplier they will look at the Central Registry and set up your account accordingly, and you will be into complex correspondance to get it changed - If you sell your house the new owner is going to have hell of a job sorting it out, and that's assuming he/she understands their billing in the first place
