Acceptance criteria for a basic or standard bank account?

I am employed by my own company which specialises in making TV docs and I set this up 7 years ago. As a result I moved to LA and started my new life over there. I have just got back from LA and purchased a house outright due to a family member leaving me with some dosh to splash. I had to do this via solicitors as I had no UK bank account.
I have just gone onto the voters roll but obviously no cred history showing.
What are my options of opening a normal bank account? I don't want a basic as these are pretty limited. Although I am not requiring credit nor an overdraft. I am thinking of going for an RBS royalty gold account as this has features that will benefit me with insurances etc. Plus I am a tart for what my debit card looks like :rotfl:
Can anyone advise my chances of which bank can give me a normal account with a proper debit card? I don't want to start applying and being offered a product that will not benefit me then I have loads of searches as I am trawlling through applying for an account.
