Maternity - Redundancy

Hi All
As you can see i am new to this forum, although been a lurker for many years.
I have found out i am due to be made redundant at the end of Sept, OH and i have been trying for a baby and we don't want to put this on hold any longer - previous family problems with conceiving.
I am due to get some redundancy payment, however i am wondering if this will have an impact on any benefits i can claim - i.e. Mat Allowance / tax credits / job seekers etc.
Obv if i am not pregnant by this time, or not visabiliy pregnant i will get a job to see me through to the baby is here.
Hope one of you knowledge people can help me :A

Depending on when you fall pregnant, if you are not made redundant until September, you may still qualify for some maternity allowance. I doubt if a redundancy payment would affect your entitlement to this.
You may be eligible if:- you've been employed and/or self-employed for at least 26 weeks in your 'test period' (66 weeks up to and including the week before the week your baby is due) - part weeks count as full weeks

Thanks for this, if i was to be let go on the last week i would be 25 weeks (assuming i fall pregnant this month) therefore i wouldn't qualify - i think0

You have to have been employed (not pregnant) for at least 26 weeks in the 66 weeks prior to your expected week of birth, so yes I'm sure you would qualify.Olympic Countdown Challenge #145 ~ DFW Nerd #389 ~ Debt Free Date: [STRIKE]December 2015[/STRIKE] September 2015

I doubt it - it's a benefit for working people who can't get SMP, or for people who have recently worked and then become unemployed - so I can't imagine redundancy would matter. It's not means tested on income or anything - you just have to have earned more than £30 a week or something during those qualifying weeks. I claimed it years ago when I had my 2nd baby as I was out of work about 6 months before he was born. On the application form there is a calendar with dates on to help you work out what your test period is and stuff.Olympic Countdown Challenge #145 ~ DFW Nerd #389 ~ Debt Free Date: [STRIKE]December 2015[/STRIKE] September 2015
