Be aware when buying any DVD player, but especially the the cheap ones, and check it plays what you need. If you just want it to play original purchased dvds then any one should do, but beyond that every single machine seems to have different specs. Therefore if you need to play ones that someone else has recorded or from a pc or a picture cd (or .........) make sure it will play the precise formats you need. Most cheaper ones will not play DVDRW, many will only play either DVD+R or DVD-R but not both, etc.

Cheap and cheerful but fully functional DVD Recorder in WHSmiths

Ports include aerial, 2 scarts s-video, composite plus DV IN (4 pin firewire), one-touch record (about 4 seconds warm-up), programmable timer like your old VHS was

Downside - only records onto DVD+R/DVD+RW, but reads all comers quite happily including windows media, jpegs, etc. Incs remote control and power cable but exc scart cable etc

Frankly, for fifty quid, it's worth every penny imho. The Bath branch has them behind the counter upstairs, no idea if it's a one-off or something, but it works a treat :)

Oh - you'll be wanting the details I expect...it's a CyberHome DVR 1600 (There's a big brand name if ever there was one)

NOTE - If you buy at Tesco and use your ClubCard for points, be advised that Tesco will likely pass your details on to the TV Tax (aka, License Fee) authorities. So if you'd rather comply with the law and pay the license fee without the help of Tesco plc being your assistant (or the BBC's), then pay cash and leave your Clubcard out of the transaction.
  • thanks fastfishfood, but the dvd player is silver with a black face, i'm trying to find an all black version.....back to the search!

I bought my £69.99 divx dvd multiregion player around 2 years back. now they are disgustingly cheap. itll save you when you buy DVDs from the US or anyplace abroad.
Save saynoto0870.com in your favorites, and stop giving companies more £££ dialling 0870 numbers when you can dial freephones or cheaper alternatives
call your credit card company, tell them that you want to leave, 99% of the time theyll lower your APR%
Remember when that Bank Manager or Salesperson smiles at you, all he sees is £ notes. Dont forget the motto, "the wider their grin, the more debt your in"
  • I bought one of these from Amazon a few months ago, when I heard it was multi-region. However looking at the manual, it states that it is for Region 2. As I (dont) yet have any DVDs from other regions, I was wondering if someone could shed any light on this - is it indeed multi-region, or do I have to 'hack' it to get there??

I can confirm that the unit is Multi Region - I bought one a few weeks ago and have played DVDs from several regions and they work fine - despite 'what it says on the tin' or the manual :)
