selling a house

last year my aunts three bedroom large semi sold at auction for under £70k. Two years previously it was worth £150k being left empty while my aunt was in a nursing home reduced the value and it only sold the SECOND time it was sent to auction - it didnt make the reserve but the last bidder later upped the bid by a thou and the beneficiaries decided to accept.
90% of the asking price isnt bad considering how much you would be saving - especially if the house remained empty and deteriorated. I like the idea above of putting a time limit on how long the house remains on the market. if no interest then you have interested buyers - personally, I would be snatching thier hands off!0 -
Yes, I have pressed the "thanks" button, all very interesting & helpful (first time I have asked for advice here).
I did speak to the neighbour & the offer is upped by £1k & brother has accepted.
Neighbour is being polite, and brother seems to think that we have now "negotiated a deal" and as he will remain my brother for the rest of my life I'm glad.
Myself, I think it wasn't worth it: it is of course subject to survey, and neighbour will now be more likely to fuss about something minor that gets turned up. But if that happens, it will be transparent, for brother to see, instead of his nagging feeling that I hadn't driven a proper bargain (being so soft!!)0 -

I would say that you were being farsighted hun. a house which isnt lived in seems to deteriorate far faster. What if the house needed some structural repairs? - that costs a fortune - far better lose a little now than a lot later!0
