Got turned down for a CC :-( Im not even sure why!

When I get my report, what can I do to improve my credit score? and how long does it take to get it back to an acceptable level??

Don't worry. There are all sorts of reasons why you might get turned down. Number of cards you have, total credit limits, was it a 2nd card in that lenders stable, etc...

are you financially linked to OH, i suspect so due to themortgage. this may have an effect- Mike, any ideas?

Have you reduced your credit limits elsewhere - ie you have a card for 1500 only owing 1000, you need to reduce the credit limits where possible as this shows some settleds.

How much debt have you got to income- maybe this will be the reason, they are tightening this up - well its reported they are I dunno

BTW- WW alert- failed. ate pork scratchings twice in 2 days. Stress is my ( lame) excuse :)
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast
  • nah, not got it yet. before my LB moment i was a bit stupid and paid catalogues a bit late sometimes, I have about £4k on one CC with LTSB and one loan with them. I have never missed a payment on my loan or CC or mortgage or any other household bill.

Can my partner's debt and bad credit impact on my credit score? although I am getting the card in my name not his.
  • Lynz - have you exchanged? will you Pm me your email addy as I cant find it!

The catalogues can have an effect with certain lenders. Also if you are linked to your partner financially in any way, then this too can effect your scores.
  • we have a mortgage in joint names

my OH hasnt exactlly had his LBM yet, and is still in bad debt with CCs. How can I stop this impacting on my credit score? Other than selling the house and moving out that is!! Is there anyway I can distance myself from him financally and still keep the mortgage injoint names?
