Tips to reduce cost of car insurance

I'm obviously not advocating lying to car insurance companies but here are some tips I have picked up recently.
Office Manager / Personal Assistant will be charged more than Advertising Assistant.
Labourer / Construction Worker / Construction Engineer will be charged more than Sales Assistant.
If the drivers have access to another car then the cost of car insurance is cheaper.
If you are co-habiting / common law spouse then you will have a cheaper joint quote with your partner than if you are married.
If you drive under 3000 miles a year the premiums are lower.
If you pay in one lump sum you can save about 30% than if you pay in instalments. (For example in one lump sum the amount was £1233.76, but in installments the total was £1806.92)
Just sharing the benefit of my experience of playing around on car insurance comparison websites for future reference

"Labourer / Construction Worker / Construction Engineer will be charged more than Sales Assistant".
And if you put down Sales Assistant when your occupation is Labourer/Construction Worker/Engineer then you are clearly lying on your application form in an attempt to obtain cheaper insurance, which is fraud! Not sure how you can describe this as a tip!
I have no doubt that where an occupation could truthfully be described as one or two different ones (PA/Admin assistant for instance) this would be permissable.
However if you deliberately lie, insurers have the option to cancel a policy from inception, charge the correct premium or take other action they feel appropriate which they might well do. Not very good advice IMO.0 -
"Labourer / Construction Worker / Construction Engineer will be charged more than Sales Assistant" rightfully so because they're completely different occupations lol?
Also, paying monthly with SOME companies costs a lot more... the company I work for charge 1.25% service charge (or 2.75% apr) which is normally only a few pounds more0 -
Whilst I totally agree about not lying, I think you guys are being a bit harsh on someone trying to help.
The general point - that describing your job honestly but perhaps differently can save you money - is completely valid.0 -
I started my post by saying I'm not advocating lying

I was sharing information about how some occupations will be charged more than others.
If you are a Construction Worker then you will pay more than a Sales Assistant. I'm not saying for Construction Workers to say they are Sales Assistants.
I wonder why married people pay more than co-habiting / common law?
With regards to the higher payment if paying by direct debit I spoke to Bell, Admiral, Direct Line, Tesco, Elephant and Diamond and they all had a hefty surcharge when paying in instalments.
Thanks Lisyloo for recognising what I was trying to say in my post and that I was trying to be helpful
