Help with tax credits please!

Hi everyone,I'm hoping someone can help me out here as iv made a big mistake with my wtc and ctc claim from last year. I only noticed this mistake when I called tax credits to renew my claim for this year! Last year I gave them my net pay instead of my gross pay which was 12480 but should have been 15990!! I'm getting really worried now because I'm not sure what will happen. If anyone can help me it would be very much appreciated. Seems like you get 1 thing sorted then another thing comes along!! Thanks sue x

Did you give them the correct figures for last year on the phone or do they still think you earned £12480 for last year? :)

No I gave them the same figure last year of 12480. I can't understand how myself or the lady on the phone didn't pick up on it as I work 48 hours a week!

In my personal opinion I think you ought to ring up and give them the correct figures as soon as possible to prevent any overpayment issues. :)

So what we need to find out now is if you have actually been overpaid for last year. Last year you should have been paid based on your total household income in 2009/2010 so you need to find out what that was and compare it with the "correct" total household income for 2010/2011. If your joint household income for 2010/2011 income was not more than £25,000 more than your joint household income for 2009/2010 then you probably will not have been overpaid in 2010/2011.

But the likelihood is that you are being overpaid now (since April 2011) since they will base this year's payments on your income for 2010/2011 and they think you earned less in 2010/2011 than you really did. You need to correct this as soon as possible! :)
