Monitor died - replace or repair? wide or normal? Acer?

Options
Hi Hubbys monitor has died. All we get now is a black screen and the green light just blinks. We've checked the cable - it's not that. Can't plug it into mine as don't have the same fittings. It's a Samsung 19" the squarer variety.

I've been looking on here for an alternative. Argos have an Acer at just £69.99. The only thing is some reviwers are saying that because it's widescreen it seems more like a 15" to them. I don't want to buy him something that seems smaller than the one he had. Can someone who has had the same size square and widescreen advise?

We run Windows XP and rarely play games or watch TV on it. Is a widescreen more for people with 7 who are games & watch TV?

Has anyone had this happen to their monitor and was cost of repair reasonable or should I just replace?

HELP.

I personally find widescreen more comfortable for general PC uses (I, like you don't use for gaming but occasionally for watching the TV or a DVD/Bluray).

Being wider, more things fit into a screen (as the screen resolution is better).

I'd say for for the widescreen option but try and get a bigger screen size. I had a 19" widescreen and now I have a 23" widescreen. They would naturally be less taller, height-wise so imo the 23" widescreen is more closer to 19" 4:3 and 19" is for closer to around a 15" 4:3.

    Hope this helps.

Don't have the same fittings? Improbable. You should check to make sure that it isn't his graphics card with the problem.

Why is it improbable? the monitor probably has a VGA plug & her GFX card could have DVI ports like mine does (though the card should of come with a VGA adapter)

I paid £59.99 +del for that Acer last May, ;) it's been absolutely fine for run of the mill use.
    Move along, nothing to see.
