we're moving into new house at the end of the month and I am trying to get the gas/electricity sorted. As we haven't yet moved in I can't use all the normal 'compare' sites as I have nothing to compare it to. I am finding it hard to compare all the different companies and tarifs as a new customer - any tips??

Hi charlotted - Can see the problem
The first thing to do is find out who the present Gas & Elec supplier is to this house. ( When you move in you will automatically become a customer of that supplier, so take meter readings on that day and phone them in to that supplier, but keep in mind that as a new customer they will put you onto an expensive 'Standard' tariff without discounts.
On that suppliers web site, or phone them, find the name of the their Standard tariff.
Use annual figures of 17,000kwh Gas & 3,200Kwh Elec consumption on the Switch sites to get access to all the suppliers prices - You can start the Switch process the day you move in
Keep in mind that the Gas & Elec figures you are using are just a ploy to get
info from the Switch sites - Your actual consumptions will be different - You can set up a D/Debit on these figures, but keep a weekly check on the meters
to see that you are not under or overpaying0
