DIY Double Galzing- Where/how to buy?
Sideways
Im planning on replacing my old Double Glazing and want to do the work myself. Ive done some research online on how to fit a window and feel confident enough to do the work myself. Im an engineer and enjoy doing work around the house, I will start with a small rear window and move on from there, learning as I go. Im in no rush and will aim to replace one window each weekend or so.
Im unsure how I should go about buying the windows. All the local DG suppliers are also installers and I have a feeling they may not like the idea of simply selling me the windows as they make money from installation, will they increase the price of the windows to make up the difference?
Does anyone have any advice on how I should go about this? What is the best way to buy the windows?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

We use a company that manufacture them in Coventry. They have no issues with who fits them and they are made to measure.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

PVC or wooden? If wooden you should be able to find a good joinery company to make them for you.
We have just used this company:-

Not a great web page but they are a small family run business ad these are the sort of companies that you migh look for especially if going down the wooden route.0 -

Not the pink one?
To the OP, the local manufacturers may all fit themselves, but that doesn't stop them being in competition and they will all have supply only customers. The margins aren't great in supply only, but it is very low risk and they will be more than happy to supply you.
It's been said before in this thread, but it bears repeating. Replacing windows in a dwelling is notifiable under building regs (in England and Wales at least) and so you'll have to notify your local authority. Their website will tell you how to do this. Among other things, the windows will need to be either WER C or better or have an overall U-value of 1.6 or lower. In rare cases a centre pane U-value of 1.2 or lower is accebtable.0 -
Our local place does supply only for £130 per window inc glass, any size and one opening.0
