Problem 1- Ads and malware
I have a P4 PC with WinXP Home, Zone Alarm PRO, NAV2002 -all regularly updated. I also run ADAware and Spybot S and D and recently upgraded Adaware to the PRO version. All of this has kept me safe for a couple of years but my old- enough- to- know- better daughter used the PC and since then I have been plagued by Pop ups , ads- some unpleasant , all unwanted.
Adaware deletes them and a few days later they are back. The main culprit is PeopleonPage , followed by Adintelligence. Bargain Buddy was also a problem but that has gone. None appears in Add and Remove Programs. PCHell has a removal system involving deleting registry keys which I feel nervous about. I'd welcome advice onanything that will remove them and return me to an ad free life.
Problem 2 -F Drive
This may be connected to above or maybe to a recent install of an Epson printer. This was successful but I have a new icon in the toolbar which says Add or remove hardware and when I click it says USB Mass storage device- drive F may be removed' I didn't create this. Is it safe to remove?
Problem 3 GreasyPalm.
I downloaded this following mentions in MSE and have never had much success with it - it appears to take up a lot of space and I think it may be connected with the Ad problems. When I try to uninstall Rebate Catcher, I get a meassage 'Ghost uninstaller -Log file not found'. Help. Is GRD30 anything to do with Greasypalm? I just want rid of it.
I'd welcome any help and advice- my serenity has disapeared. Apologies for this being so long and also for bundling 3 problems in one missive.

I can help you with (1).1st check if you have got windows(not msn)messenger or msn messenger plus-if so get rid of them, remove any P2P software. Both these will likely incur the wrath of O.E.T.K.B. daughter. 2nd make sure Spybot S&D, Ad-aware and Spywareblaster are up to date, try the M.S/Giant spyware remover. Ccleaner is also useful to clear up odd registry bits and pieces and old files. 2rd after running updated versions of above, assuming failure to remove all, download Hijack this-save to own folder and run a scan, save log ,copy/paste to an expert site. http://forum.misec.net/board/Trojans/1083505568

If you are in doubt at all with registry entries don't touch them without help. Its all to easy to screw-up your computer.
(2) I found this with Epson, as far as I know you just ignore it.
(3) I also found it difficult to remove, can't remember how I did it and if I got rid of all of it.Down south where, unfortunately, the government does remember us.0 -
Thank you Peter for replying. I have disabled Windows Messenger and things are looking good, so far on the unwanted ads front. Daughter will now always be known as OETKB.
On my Greasypalm uninstall question, someone had previously posted that they had the same problem. A reply from the website owner merely repeated the Add and Remove Programs advice but not what to do if there is no installation file. I suspect there are more than the two of us with this problem.
Many thanks

download a program called "tune up utilites 2004" it is a 30 day evaluation but a fully working version and has an option called "1-click Maintenance" that is worth running as it clears up all the missing program links etc . Once you have run that the main program has an option to remove unwanted programs that may help...
The Microsoft Beta Spyware remover is also a VERY good method of getting rid of those unwanted adware nasties, cleared stuff running on my pc that spybot etc did not kill..it's worth running this in "safe mode" as some spyware won't allow itself to be deleted with the full version of windows runningEx forum ambassador

Have you run HIJACK THIS ? Run it, then paste your result logs HERE
The advice I've found to delete greasypalm is run Hijack This. Delete all the references to GP there. Then boot up in safe mode Look in C:WINDOWS and see if you can find GPalm.dll and GreasyPalmUpdate.exe. Then delete these two.
Hope it helps. How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?

Sorry for the trouble you are having with our software.
The problem is due to the fact that your system cannot locate the original installation log.
It's a quick and easy fix.
Go back to GreasyPalm and install Rebate Catcher again...the software will process thorugh and in doing so ensure you have an install log in place. Now go back to control panel->add/remove programs and select Rebate Catcher.
