I get it on Virgin channel 113
Now BBC do not have HD for local programmes even the news.0 -
yes you can....but you won't get local news as UTV are too penny pinching to broadcast HD the rest of the time....
you have to:
This requires that your Sky+HD box has the new EPG version.
Press "Services" on the remote control (or from the Guide go to "Options" on the top menu).
Press the down arrow, and then scroll across to "Add Channels".
Press "Select" or the down arrow, to highlight the frequency.
Using the number pad on the remote, enter the following frequency: 10.832
Press the down arrow, and use the left or right arrow to change the Polarisation from V to H.
Check that the Symbol Rate is 22.0 and that the FEC is 5/6, and adjust if necessary.
Press the yellow button to Find Channels.
Once it has finished scanning, find & highlight channel "ITVHD" and press the yellow button to store it, and then press Select to continue.
You can now view ITV HD by going to "Other Channels" within Services/Options (it's next to "Add Channels") & pressing Select to reveal channel ITV HD & then pressing Select again to view it.
[As ITV HD is not in the actual EPG, the Guide & the Search/Scan banner will not show any schedule information for it. Also, I believe that you cannot use any of the Sky+ features on it (scheduled recordings, Live Pause, Instant Rewind, etc. - although I think manual recordings might work.]
You will also find using different settings the UTV + 1hr channel as well....it's not currently advertised...but then again I'm not surprised.
there you go....it's nice to watch some of the newer ITV stuff in HD and especially the football...No two ways about this one: Anything Free is not a Basic Right..it had to be earned...by someone, somewhere0 -
You can also get ITV1 HD on Freesat.
If I remember correctly, you go to channel 977 (ITV London), then press the red button.
EDIT: Note that I gave that channel number from memory, so it may not be correct. :-)0 -

So badabing is on Sky - that would have been useful to know but the advice above is valid, for some reason, UTV HD has only launched on Virgin Media, which is a bit (a lot) annoying.
I think the Freesat advice above may be out of date though, from when ITVHD was just on the red button instead of its own channel.
These days, on Freesat when I want to watch ITVHD, I switch to 'non-Freesat mode' (all Freesat boxes have this, it takes you out of the sortof branded Freesat environment and gives access to all the unencrypted channels on whatever channel the dish is pointed at) and once you've done a scan in this mode (or simply added ITV HD in a similar way to the Sky instructions) you can find ITVHD. That's the only channel I use in non-Freesat mode so handy enough.
UTVHD should be on Freesat RIGHT NOW anyway, what's the holdup?!0 -
Not out of date as such; it was always possible to get ITV1 HD in non-Freesat mode. The red button method is just another way to achieve the same thing.
UTV are a farce. How many times do we have to endure old repeats of "Lesser Spotted Ulster" and new series of the cheapest programme known to mankind - "Ultimate Ulster"??????0 -

switch to chanel 993 and watch ITV London, or use the search method I described above and there are other ITV regions available on SkyNo two ways about this one: Anything Free is not a Basic Right..it had to be earned...by someone, somewhere0 -

UTVHD is only available on VIrgin for simple reason, it's very inexpensive to get the HD signal through to the Virgin telehouse (Virgin probably did this using their own network at their own expense).
UTVHD though is only HD when they are showing ITV network content which is produced in HD and it is simply sent out in what's called HD Passthru mode.
UTV have little or no HD equipment themselves, and are unlikely to have for some considerable time so even if they do launch on satellite any time soon, local content will be upscaled SD but this is the same for most of the ITV network anyway.
The problem with getting HD to the masses is simply that satellite capacity is expensive and UTV simply seem unable to afford an HD slot on Astra/Eurobird.
I predict that UTVHD will be available in HD on Terrestrial (late 2012) before it will be on satellite as their Sky/Freesat provision is optional and at their discretion however they MUST provide the HD service on terrestrial from digital switchover date as part of their licence condidtions. There is no such obligation on them for satellite (or cable) carriage of HD.
The only possible way this might not become true is if UTV decide to use satellite carriage as their method of getting the HD feed to the terrestrial transmitter sites and the satellite service launches just ahead of the digital switchover.
For myself, I got a Freesat HD box and lied to it (I put in an English postcode). So I get ITV and C4 HD in the EPG. Obviously my 101, 102, 103 etc are the wrong region but I just watch my normal channels thru the TVs built-in freeview, so regions all correct and just use the sat for HD or extra channels available so the gain is huge and the pain is tiny.
This will of course all become irrelevant next year after Digital switchover..0
