Avoid AA membership auto renewal??
After years of getting fed up of ringing the AA to get the online price rather than the extortionate renewal price I have finally cancelled. After years of great serviceI am going to re-join but this time annually through topcashback as I can get £40 cashback (there is no added benefit to being marked as a long term member)
However is there a way to avoid the auto renewal? The payment options are annual direct debit, annually by card, or monthly payments. I want my membership to lapse without me having to waste my life ringing them to cancel any renewal payment etc etc and then re-join annually through topcashback.

Use a card that expires before the renewal?0

I did ask this when I rang to complain about my renewal price. Standard response given about automatic computer generating renewals, no reason given for why its automatic.
They wanted £240 pounds, when I only paid £112 the year previous. Did a quote using topcash back of £120 so rang back the AA and negotiated £122 pounds plus 2000 nectar points0 -
The AA will accept a cheque. I have an elderly relative who pays this way but it involves phoning up first to arrange the cover and then posting the cheque.0

I've not found one.
You can cancel the direct debit, and they can't take the money, but you still need to phone up to cancel, or they keep trying, and they'll probably double charge you when you set upthe new membership.0 -
Cancel the direct debit and then ring and say you wont be renewing, when they ask why you can say confidently you can get the same membership from both RAC and AA for £9 after cashback, they come back with half the price (but still £25 more lol) and you say ' no ta', job done0

Looks like I will have to WASTE MY TIME ringing them every year to cancel then renew with topcashback.
Customer service is dead these days0 -
Just found a new cashback site today too so may be worth checking what the AA offer on there is as they are better than topcashback for some of my regular online purchases
Good to know:

Good to know offer cashback to a bank account or Amazon vouchers (with a 5% added boost if you go for this option!)

They did not force you to sign up with them. For the last 3 years I've had breakdown cover for ~£10 a year (with cashback). I've maybe spent less than 10 mins. in total cancelling autorenewal. I'm well happy with that!0 -
Very true
I take it £10 is for the basic cover with no relay (a recovery to anywhere in the UK)?0
