honeywell 3 way valve?

I have changed the motor on the honeywell 3 way valve , but I still can only get hot water not central heating. ie it just go's to hot water and stays there unless I push the lever on the honeywell to manual overide will I get central heating.I have noticed that the lever has no resistance aswell could it be the actual body that houses the motor that is the problem many thanks for any help on this subject.
