I had already cleaned up the remaining AVG an uninstalled skype on this machine.
Any of the Toshiba carp I can get rid of?
New log (probably the odd scrap left to do):-

Try scanning again with tdsskiller and malwarbytes and these scanners, this is an indication that tdss or remnants of it are still lurking

I would just like to thank all of you who took the time to reply and help with my problem. Not only has the redirect been fixed but also the laptop is now running properly. There have been a few occasions recently wen the urge to throw it through the window was very strong, it was just sooooo slow.
I know there have been other suggestions that no doubt would also help but I really am at the limit of my competence and think I will quit whilst I am ahead.
Many many thanks :beer:0 -
You really need to fix the userinit thing as above, it's part of the rootkit.
the mdm thing will free up a little ram to keep it running fast.
when it's clean, consider backing up!!
