deemed contract? Can i change?

Hi all,

Moved into a rental, going to sign today with a new electricity supplier. I should have done it earlier but just been so busy.

Got a letter in the post a few days ago from EDF saying 'As the current supplier we are required to continue to supply the premises with electricity subject to our Deemed Contract Scheme'.

Shall I just continue to sign up with my new supplier and ignore this? As far as I can tell from previous threads they are trying to hoodwink me into signing with them. (In any case my letting agent was going to put me on to a new supplier but I said I wanted another one).

Of course the only downside is that I am going to be on EDF's most expensive tariff until my accout is transferred.
thanks

As soon as you switch a light on you are entering into a 'deemed contract' with the current supplier of the property. You can change suppliers to the supplier of your choice as soon as you like.

As in you can initiate the changeover immediately, but the deemed contract will run for at least 28 days, before changeover can take effect.

And they can charge whatever they like until your new supply kicks in?
