Yes, I shared an electron with my sisters. I loved the novelty of (very basic) bbc basic, and the games. Also had a pac-man, and a space-invaders console, which could get very addictive. :D

I hope it was only 28, otherwise I'm even older than I feel. Or maybe it was running an experimental Pentium chip...
I'm dreaming of a white Christmas.
But, if the white runs out, I'll drink the red.

    Hi GunJack,
I can't thank you enough, the link was great! even found the elusive Lynx, turns out it was by camputers and started production in 1982, finishing in 1984! It cost £345.00 back then, 38 years ago that would have been funny money. Hubby was in RAF then, so must have been well paid. Still have it buried somewhere in a cupboard, must be very rare now. Our trouble is we get more up to date, but never throw any away, need a bigger house, or the kids to fly the nest and leave us a spare room.
I will have to check what games we have, masses of floppy discs in a set of drawers to wade through, happy days. All the Acorns we have still boot up happily, two of them are sitting next to me now, one is still used to access an old dial up account, and still has household accounts on it, must get it cleared soon.

no probs, happy to help ;)

...and glad to hear that some of those oldies are still running well....lemmings anyone ?? :D

I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple :D

I'm sure the model of Archimedes we had was the A3010 (more rounded casing than the A310 if i remember correctly) when mrs GunJack was doing her teacher training around 1992, coz that's what most primary schools had at the time after progressing from BBC micros :)

...jeez, that was almost 20 years ago :D

For anyone who had an interest in programming the BBC or Acorn computers using BBC Basic, you might be interested to know that the BBC Basic programming language has been resurrected and improved. It can now be used to program a standard Windows PC.

    Full details at

    http://www.bbcbasic.co.uk/bbcwin/bbcwin.html

Many of us learned to program on BBC machines at school and now you can do it on a standard PC - program costs £30 but great nostalgia-value for 1980's geeks!

    He loved Elite.

Then he'll love Oolite even more. ;)
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

Just had a quick google and found this which has loads of web pages relating to games:

google.com/Top/Games/Video_Games/History/ (you need to put www at the front, as a new user I am unable to post links)

PLEASE NOTE: I have no way of telling if any of these sites are dodgy, perhaps others can advise?

There's a free version of BBC BASIC called Brandy.

    http://jaguar.orpheusweb.co.uk/branpage.html

There's also a free BBC Micro emulator. It emulates the 6502 processor as well as the support chipset used in the BBC. It also provides BBC Basic from an original ROM image..

You can use the emulator to run binary-only BBC software as well.. such as Elite..

    Hi Again,
    WhiteChristmas,
Don't know whether to blame my maths, or touch typing and not proof reading, but probably my maths! Getting senile, I certainly don't need to add ten years to my age. Still haven't delved into the floppy discs, scared to open the drawers, I might fire up a machine and never escape!
Still have the BBC Basic book on the shelf, gathering dust, must stop collecting or the house will bulge at the seams, our teens are nearly as bad. Maybe we ought to start our own museum.
