My Daddy wants me to find out the name of an Acorn computer game that we played when I was little - it was on a "3010" I think. It was definitely before I was in year 5, so any time before 1996 but I'm not sure on exact dates.
It was a bit like Tetris, in that there were falling blocks. But instead of different shapes each block was 4 pieces long and made up of different colours. The idea was to match the colours - the more you made in a row/column/diagonally the more you scored.
There were mystery pieces, which were a multi colour sort of thing and when you got those it went "magic magic magic" in a whispery voice.
When you lost it went "ha ha ha, he he he, ho ho...ho".
I'm convinced it began with "P" and my sister thinks the name ended with "-tion".
I know it's a long shot asking here but he's bugging me. My daddy wants me to ask on "Twitter" as he's heard the word and knows it's a way of getting a wide audience, but please prove MSE is better :money:
Also, does anyone know anything about Acorn emulators? My sister wants to play Dino Saw and we've found a thingy but it needs an emulator and I haven't a clue.

I've spent ages tracking down old games from the 80s, so I know the feelingYoutube is great for videos on old games.

My sister and I managed to find one game by googling something like "Acorn computer bomb game" - I can't remember the name now, but it was a bit like Bomberman (only better) and we found a download!
There's still one that's been bugging me, haven't found it even by searching year by year in mobygames.com. It was an old Tandy1000 game with a split screen for multiplayer. You would play with another person and both started out in your own base in an APC, and had to raid the other's base to rescue POWs. There were turrets, but you could easily avoid them by positioning yourself properly. My brother and I would always help each other collect POWs instead of competing, and somehow still found it fun.
Oh well, I'll find it one of these days!0 -
Hi there,
What do you mean HAD, my husband still has three, two RISC PC and one Archimedes think this is model A310! Not sure what games they have on them I used to like Tertis! He loved Elite. My eldest son, now at Uni studying Computer Gaming, was playing games on the RISC PC a couple of weeks ago! House looks like a computer museum, we also have a "Lynx" never seen another and it cost an arm and a leg when he bought it, an Amstrad CPC464, five assorted PC's and a Netbook! Don't mention any other games machines!0 -

The original link I put was just listing games by one company, "games.php?company=1", because I didn't know how to get a general list on that site to browse. Actually I still don't... but if you put "company=2" then it'll show games by from different company. There's actually a huge amount of games there having done a 'blank' search.0 -
I'm sure the model of Archimedes we had was the A3010 (more rounded casing than the A310 if i remember correctly) when mrs GunJack was doing her teacher training around 1992, coz that's what most primary schools had at the time after progressing from BBC micros
...jeez, that was almost 20 years ago

Hi GunJack,
I can't thank you enough, the link was great! even found the elusive Lynx, turns out it was by camputers and started production in 1982, finishing in 1984! It cost £345.00 back then, 38 years ago that would have been funny money. Hubby was in RAF then, so must have been well paid. Still have it buried somewhere in a cupboard, must be very rare now. Our trouble is we get more up to date, but never throw any away, need a bigger house, or the kids to fly the nest and leave us a spare room.
I will have to check what games we have, masses of floppy discs in a set of drawers to wade through, happy days. All the Acorns we have still boot up happily, two of them are sitting next to me now, one is still used to access an old dial up account, and still has household accounts on it, must get it cleared soon.0
