Copd & dla ?

HI Guys , just needed a bit of advice about COPD & DLA , is this a valid reason to make a claim ? reason i ask is that the Missus is having to cease work within the next couple of months due to her COPD condition getting worse , she dont really want to stop work but its just getting too much with the walking ( works in a hospital )
5-10 yards and she`s struggling ! ):
It seems a lotta paperwork and complicated for just one condition .
Worth applying for or a no-no ?

If she has care or mobility needs, has had them for at least 3 months and is expected to continue to have them for at least a further 6 months it's worth applying. She can claim DLA whether or not she's working so if she's eligible she doesn't need to wait until she has to give up work.

COPD is described in the DWP Specialist Guidance on Medical Conditions as one of the more common conditions sited in DLA and Attendance Allowance Claims.


If she is signed off work due to ill health/unable to work due to ill health then she can claim Employment Support Allowance - this is an out of work benefit.

If she's struggling so much with walking, has she been assessed to see if she needs oxygen?

Getting her out of a hospital environment will be one of the best things she can do as it'll keep many infections at a distance and this is vitally important with COPD,
