Barclaycard Upgrade

Hi,

Has anyone recently been able to 'upgrade' their Barclaycard Initial?

My credit limit has gone up to £2020 and wouldn't mind one of the lower interest rate cards... I've recently started to generate decent offers on my Barclays current account but doubt that would impact on the Barclaycard internal rating.

Cheers.

MF

  • You almost certainly will be able to upgrade your card.....your Barclays current account offers DO impact your barclaycard internal score.

You can have barclaycard do a soft search online and it will tell you how likley you are to be accepted, i cant add links on here but if you google 'apply with confidence barclaycard' it will link you to the pre application tool

Thanks for your reply - one of the first statements on the Barclaycard pre-application check states you cannot get another Barclaycard if you currently have one... So I'm looking for people who have had recent experience of an upgrade (not a new app).

I like your first line! May I ask how you can be certain my Barclays conduct influences Barclaycard internal score?
  • I bank with Barclays, my first barclaycard before i got into poor credit was direct through the bank. The fact that barclayard ask if you have a barclays bank account indicates that they cross reference. And the fact that you are being offered credit through your current account indicates that you are passing the barclays internal scoring which as said is cross referenced.

I only suggested using the tool because it will conduct a soft search on your credit file and will let you know what barclaycard you are likely to accepted for....so it could come back as barclaycard gold or platium in which case you could ring up barclaycard and demand to be upgraded

Also if you are eligible for other mainstream credit cards then you can use that as a bargaining tool to get upgraded....genuinely dont think ull have any problems

Unfortunately they don't offer upgrades anymore as I tried yesterday.

From what I was told though, you have to cancel your existing account and re-apply. Though I was also told that current Barclaycard customers are now able to apply for another card but obviously the decision is subject to another credit check and presumably not based on your score with your existing Barclaycard.

Saying that though, I've had my Initial since late 2009, had my interest rate lowed to 19.9%, my limit increased from £2000 to £3000 and then a letter yesterday increasing my limit to £4500 and then my interest rate cut again yesterday to 14.9% after kicking up a fuss with retentions about how silly it is I have to close my account and re-apply.

I still think it is silly why they can't just give me a Gold card or what not, as the features I have on my 'Initial' (which Barclaycard say I have a stockton/stocktom Visa and not an Initial anymore, even though its the same card) are more or less the same, if not better, than some of their higher cards :-S.

    Hope this helps anyway.

Thanks for the information, UncleSimit - I'll call them to see what they say!
