Why was I refused a credit card?

I have a perfect credit history, always make payments on time, never not paid etc etc but have just been refused a credit card. Could it be because I have just purchased a house and been in it less than six months?

  • the recent change of address could be a factor, could your debt to earnings ratio also be high(exc mortgage)?
  • Which credit card was you refused and do you have any other credit cards? Give us an idea of what your current credit file looks like and we can help more and point you in the direction of more likely to be accepted alternatives

Are you on the electoral Roll ? These days its an instant decline if your not.

Buying a house and becoming a homeowner will help your credit generally, the main reason for this is because if you default on a credit agreement, a lender can obtain a charging order over your home and get repaid with interest for little effort on their part when you sell it, reducing the risk of lending.

But like i said, Make sure you are on the electoral roll and it is confirmed on all 3 CRA's (Credit Reference Agencies), Experian, Equifax, and CallCredit.

If you are and its confirmed, Then make sure everything is correct on your file.

Which card did you apply for ? How many cards do you hold at the moment? Are you near your credit limits ?
