Starting out as Self Employed

Hi. I have recently been made redundant but am taking the opportunity to start my own company.
My question is: Until I acually start making any money, can I claim any benefits? There appears to be a lot out there if u r on a low income but none available if u are starting up as self employed.
Any information welcome.
Thanks

the hm revenue and customs do free courses on starting self employment - I recommend you go on one - I went last week and they said that you dont have to register becoming self employed until you actually start xxx
for the benefits question I would ask the job centre direct xxx0
