I have just installed the Java SDK version 6 onto my Windows Xp Pc but am unable to find the java compiler 'javac'. It is supposed to be in the bin directory but I have searched my whole system and can't see it.
Any ideas?

At a quick glance is sounds like you have JRE rather than JDK0

Assuming you can find the other Java executables (e.g. java.exe, javaw.exe) in your bin dir, then I'd say you've installed the JRE instead of the JDK.
What's the complete bin dir path of your install? This should tell you whether you've got the JDK or JRE installed. If it's definitely the JDK you've installed, then uninstall & reinstall, in case the first attempt didn't extract all the files correctly.0 -
Both of you were spot on guys. I had 3 versions installed. An old and a new JRE and the JDK. I was looking in the JRE folders for javac which was why I could not find it.
It is in the JDK bin folder as it is supposed to be so thanks for that really useful suggestion.:money:0
