Computer won't boot up - just keeps saying there is no NTLDR and to press ctrl alt del to restart but then just turns off/then back on then shows this sign again.

Any ideas?

Sorry edited as realised is NTLDR.

That will be NTLDR that is missing or corrupt, you can repair by booting from your Windows installation disc and following the on screen instructions.

Just check the obvious first, you would get an NTLDR error if there was a floppy disk in the drive (if you even have one). Also make sure there are no CD's inserted, or USB hard drives plugged in.

Tried rebooting once I had checked disk drive and removed USB hardware - still same message.

Update: I don't have a Windows installation disk.

    What should I try now?

It is a Packard Bell with Celeron D running with Windows XP....yeah a bit old now and slow. Was planning to see if I could get an upgrade until this happened.

I bet you want to know more specifics but I am sorry I don't know RAM etc but know it isn't very powerful.

Have you the possibility to run a Factory Restore? Is there a Recovery program anywhere. There are other options, but they are a bit fiddly.

No chance of restore at all.

First screen it comes up with is the NTLDR missing......no other options as far as I can see to do a factory restore when I press F8.
