Yes they sell 3 quite large bags for a fiver in my local sainsburys. They are really nice and I put them in my porridge before microwaving it. The blueberries are also included as are the blueberries/strawberries mix. I find it cheaper than fresh as obviously they keep longer. I would like it if anyone could tell me if you can get these anywhere else. It's the only place I've seen them. (Not mixed berries as they always have loads of seeds in).

I find Sainsburys to be less "in your face" with the junk offers than say Tesco where you fall over the BOGOF chocolate/cake offers in the middle of the aisle.
I also find Sainsburys fruit & veg to be of a much better quality than Tesco and Morrisons.
I am only buying for one but today I got reasonably priced stuff.
net of satsumas (7) £1.24
mango £1
pineapple £1
4 baking potatoes 50p
Basics fine green beans £1
Chesnut mushrooms £1
Bramley apples (5) £1.47 (didn't have any loose ones!)
They would have cost me a lot more in my local Tescos.
Not sure about the feed for £50 meal as it does seem to be based around toast and sandwiches and a main meal. They could easily have fitted a bag of Basics porridge in there and a punnet of Basics blueberries.
With a bit of tweaking, you could do include fruit and yoghurt for the lunches for £10 a week more.
With regards to f&v quality at Sainsburys, I have in my fridge a pack of raspberries with a use by date of 29th April still looking lovely and blueberries with a ub of 1st May. If I had bought these elsewhere, they would been binned a few days ago.0 -

Asda have a biggish bag, think about 400 grams for 1.79. Also summer berries,Slimming World at target0 -
I think the meal plans at the resourcefulcook website are much better. Loads of variety (veggie, low cal, family, for one, for couples) all costed, all showing calorie counts, all very tasty (in my view).0

Hi Floart,
Thanks for your feedback. All families have different eating habits - some eat different amounts at different meals, some prefer a moderate breakfast, others prefer a large breakfast and light lunch. What Sainsbury's can guarantee is that all meal plans have been checked by nutritionists at British Nutrition Foundation to ensure that they provide suitable amount of various nutrients over the whole day. The menu is designed as a guideline and additional foods like cereal, low fat dairy, fruit and vegetables could be added for hungry children.“Official Company Representative

not a criticism of the op of course, but how do sainsburys suppose active children and adults can get by until the evening meal on just toast and a sandwich?
i am a bit on the squashy side so could afford to lose a few pounds, but my partner and children are all slim and healthy and eat an awful lot more than sainsbury's suggest for breakfast and lunch, because they need to eat healthily troughout the day in order to function properly... what a silly gimmicky idea, to me it feels like putting entire families on a faddy diet based on budget...

I have noticed people on here going "wheres the snacks, drinks etc" theres nothing wrong with that at all and we are all different. I can safely say that even though it is just breakfast, sandwich, and dinner, if my already challenged with the lbs self and my "keeping a check on his weight so he doesnt get fat" son attempted to live on this then the pounds would surely pile on!! About the only one that "could" feasibly live on it would be my husband that does a manual job and works bloomin hard all day, me and son are both in sedentary pastimes called office work and school and can only excercise "out of hours"! Just had to stick my two penneth in! But keep things comin, I am taking it there will be a few weeks worth of plans, maybe when the weather gets better they will have some lighter suggestions!
Hi Katylou, thanks for your feedback.
Sainsbury's has worked with nutritionists at the British Nutrition Foundation to ensure the menu is nutritionally balanced. These meal plans have been devised to provide 85% of an adult’s average daily nutrient intake and they have been checked to ensure that they don’t provide more calories, fat, sugar or salt than current guidelines recommend. At the moment, we have a number of plans already prepared which will give customers a great chance to see whether the planner works for them and which choices they prefer.“Official Company Representative

As someone else said it is alot of basics stuff - some of which is nice but some of the recipes don't sound like they have much seasoning or herbs in them - the spaghetti and meatballs sounds really bland. There are three of us - but two of them are teenagers who eat enough for two each and I reckon I could probably feed us all for that or not much more and it would include snacks and milk. I have been buying the basics pasta for 9p and that is really quite nice.
Hi Jane,
Thanks for your feedback. The £50 plan is designed as a guideline for main meals only at under £50. We have worked on suggestions for snacks and desserts which can be easily found on the FYFF£50 website if you would like to take a look.

Not impressed. As a previous poster said - it budgets for only a sandwich for lunch, but there are pictures of fruit etc with it, so wheres that coming from. I see better meal plans here in the old stylers every week
Hello,
Thanks for your feedback. The menu is designed as a guideline, which provides families with solutions for their main meals during the week at under £50. We provide some optional snacking suggestions on our website.
We have further meal plans over the next few weeks. Hopefully something will take your fancy from a different menu.

andypandy1 wrote: »This looks like a very poor effort from Sainsburys - this is most certainly not what I would call a healthy family diet - far too much reliance upon processed/red meats. Reckon it would take very little effort to source much healthier sources of protein/iron for an equivalent amount.
Hi Andy,
Thanks for your feedback.
We have worked carefully with nutritionists at the British Nutrition Foundation to ensure the menu is nutritionally balanced. Where processed meats are used in our recipes, children should be given small portions only because of their salt and fat content. The meal plans as written have not been designed to meet the nutritional requirements of children under 4 years old. For nutritionally balanced recipe ideas for younger children and advice on portion sizes see http://www.sainsburys.co.uk/littleones
We have additional meal plans over the next few weeks. Hopefully you will find something to your liking in a future menu.“Official Company Representative
