Sainsbury's - Feed your family for £50!!

Comments

  • Just had a look and there are no snacks, drinks or desserts included in the £50. As someone else said it is alot of basics stuff - some of which is nice but some of the recipes don't sound like they have much seasoning or herbs in them - the spaghetti and meatballs sounds really bland. There are three of us - but two of them are teenagers who eat enough for two each and I reckon I could probably feed us all for that or not much more and it would include snacks and milk. I have been buying the basics pasta for 9p and that is really quite nice.

If you click 'view the meal plan in detail' at the bottom you can 'boost your breakfast', 'add a snack' & 'choose a dessert ( will take it over £50)

I picked up one of the leaflets today and would be starving if I ate as little as this recommends! I'm not fat, and neither are any of my family (I'm verging on underweight), but I need to eat about twice as much as this!

Umm... don't need Sainsbury's to teach me how to eat healthily on a budget, 'toast with jam' 'bacon butties' not bl***y likely, Quinoa porridge with Cinnamon and raisins, packed lunch of say home made hummas and pitta bread, ( a complete protein) a evening meal consisting mostly of salad/vegetables and a nice dressing, I could go on....

As another poster said it is bland and it's not very healthy either, all you need is a good collection of herbs and spices, a bit of research into nutrition which can be done on the internet, and a willingness to cook from scratch which I enjoy any way.

This is my favorite online source of meal ideas and I always start on the Greek salad page.

And for tea tonight I am having a Bulgar wheat and tomato salad, you can stick your '
Meatballs with spaghetti' where the sun don't shine. :)

Not impressed. As a previous poster said - it budgets for only a sandwich for lunch, but there are pictures of fruit etc with it, so wheres that coming from. I see better meal plans here in the old stylers every week
The opposite of what you know...is also true

This looks like a very poor effort from Sainsburys - this is most certainly not what I would call a healthy family diet - far too much reliance upon processed/red meats. Reckon it would take very little effort to source much healthier sources of protein/iron for an equivalent amount.

Never get food freebies in my store. even though we get notices saying 'you will be receiving blah blah blah' but never do get them!

I work for a small store - about 18,500 sq ft. As per usual we get ignored.

We've had the stir fry for our dinner tonite, I must admit I did add a bit of chicken as I was worried it wouldnt be enough, however we couldnt eat it all, it was delicious, you add peanuts to it at the last minute and it is really tasty.

I agree that the £50 does not include drinks, nor tea coffee and prob not enough milk for us, however if you read the menu the breakfast does have a portion of dried fruit with the toast, however I would of liked to of seen a desert on Sundays menu ;)

When I look through the shopping list I actually have a lot of the ingredients in the cupboard, jam mayo etc so could come in less than £50:D
