baby drowsy after jabs

Is it normal for a 3 month old baby to be excessively drowsy 48 hours after his 12 week jabs?

My grandson has missed a feed because he's still asleep, which is unheard of! His temperature's fine and he's breathing normally, but he's so sleepy he just couldn't be woken for the feed.

Yes of course.. he has just had his immune system bombarded by loads of foreign bodies he needs to recouperate. Let him be!

If his temp is ok and he is breathing he is fine.

I am actually getting a bit concerned about how much flapping you do over this baby... you've flapped about his feeding, his sleeping, his crying and now his jabs... is his mum concerned about any of this or is it just you? It isn't just him either.. I noticed the doggy posts too.. do you have some anxiety problems? .. I am not criticising at all in any way, I am just a little perplexed as to why you feel the need to worry about everything.

I see no flapping in Zaksmum's post? Just somebody who has no previous experience of babies after their jabs checking something is normal. Surely it's better to ask people who have been through it rather than worry unneccessarily?

Yes, it's perfectly normal for baby to be sleepy after their jabs. Sometimes they can get a hard lump round the injection site too, again this is normal :)

This is her daughters baby not her own.. so she has experience from her own children.

As I said it wasn't a criticism, it is good a grandmother should love her grandson this much.

    Looks like criticisism to me!

I don't think pigpen's being critical. She has expressed concern over zaksmum's (quite regular) worrying about the grandchild's progress. When I read the OP, it was my first thought too.

In answer to your question OP: I can't remember exactly how my DD reacted to her jabs, but I seem to recall she slept a lot. Not sure whether it lasted as long as 48hrs or not though.

Also, if your DD's not worried, I don't think you should be. She knows her baby best. If she's concerned and that's why you're asking, advise her to call NHS Direct.

i can understand where pigpen is coming from tbh - think of it as constructive critism if you must. Worrying all the time about unneccessary things is really not good for anyone. My DD always gets a raging temperature, wont settle and cries ALOT after her jabs. He's only tired, he'll be fine.

You are assuming if the OP does has an anxiety issue that she can control her level of worry. You clearly therefore do not understand anxiety disorders as it is not a choice!

My children always like this after jabs. Way there bodies deal with things, they tend to sleep a lot when ill. Don`t be surprised if doesn't fancy feeding too much over the next day or two either.

To be fair to pigpen, this poster has begun a string of hysterical posts about every aspect of this child's upbringing, and the poor child is only 12 weeks old. It's pretty clear from previous threads that she isn't asking at her daughter's request, but if anyone posts anything which doesn't accord with her daughter's opinion or practises it will certainly be passed on to the daughter.

Just had a quick scan of previous thread's started by Zaksmum can't see a single thing that would warrant the label "hysterical" just a concerned granny. wish my daughter had 1. Cut the woman a break, not everyone is the wonderful natural parents some of you claim to be.

Zaksmum, my dd was drowsy after her jab's in fact was the 1st night she slept right through, & has done ever since. Think if his temp is ok, he should be fine but if your daughter is concerned she should ring NHS24 for advice.
    Booo!!!
