Faulty chip pan causing burn

Hi I bought a cheap Asda chip pan last year and thankfully kept the receipt, I have spoken to them and they have offered a full refund but i am not happy with that as I recieved a burn to my hand when the handle gave during cooking and the basket dropped back into the pan. To my great luck I was right next to the tap and managed to stop the burn being anymore than a scald but I am concerned about several other safety problems with this chip pan and that there are people out there who could get seriously hurt.
Does anyone know who I should contact about this to make Asda do a full recall? And what should I do? as getting my money back doesn't really help as i will need to buy another fryer anyway.
Thanks in advance for any answers.

get your money back, report it to trading standards (via consumer direct) and let them deal with it0

No problem at all, they will take the detail and it gets handled by the trading standards office where the head office of the company concerned is based, so in your case it would be the Leeds office as that's asda HQ
I reported a problem I had recently about another chain, consumer direct said they couldnt help and had to remain impartial - out of the blue today, two weeks later I get a call from the local TS officer - fantastic and informative bloke, had a chat, gave him the details and said thanks, but I have agreed a solution to my complaint with the store concerned already...0 -

Because you cant just demand a recall of an entire product line because one person has had an accident. Had the op said that she had found lots of other customers who had the same problem with the chip pan then I can see that there would possibly be a case for a recall. Trading Standards is an excellent idea and if the op contacts consumer direct then they will pass the information onto trading standards who will decide what to do with it0 -
The reason I asked is I have to make a special trip to do this as my store 5-6 miles away from where I live and I can barely afford petrol at the minute.
I don't particularly care about my burn as it is not the first one I have ever had and I doubt it will the last but would be horrified if someone received one I could of done something about by reporting the fault.
Also thinking about it they don't do one the same price anymore either so new one would cost more and I am on sickness benefits so paying more for things is very hard too.well today was a complete waste of make up :eek:0 -
By contacting Asda and Consumer Direct you have reported the fault and can do no more on that score. Has Asda asked that you bring the pan back to them? Maybe if you explained that you cant then maybe you could return it another way?? Or just keep hold of it till you are doing your shopping next time and bring it with you then?0

Who said anything about a recall of an entire product line.
And yes you can if the item is inherently dangerous.0 -

Because a fried chip once in a blue moon is such a bad thing isn't it Freddie? Everything in moderation.0

Wow, what a useless post. The OP just came here to ask what to do to make sure their complaint about a dangerous product reached the right people. There was no mention of wanting compensation.why????? Have you proof of anymore accidents caused by these pans? Why are you not happy to have a refund? Are you after compensation? If so tell me how much you think you are entitled too? Getting your money back DOES help you as you can then use said refund to buy the other chip pan you so obviously need. Or cook in the oven/grill from now on
Sometimes, recalls are initiated on the basis of one complaint, where the design is looked at and it is decided the product is of faulty design. Your suggestion that there needs to be more than one customer injured to initiate a recall is completely wrong.0
