Halifax Fantasy Trader Game

Hi All, anyone tried this and got the calculator out? The maths in my portfolio overview don't multiply out. Its probably me but see what you think of the following figures.

Qty:616
Mkt Price: 1.10
Qty Value: £629.49 !!!!

There's other anomalies too but lifes too short. Is it me?

    Never used it myself.

But there's no such thing as 'Market Price' in shares. There's a bid price and an offer price.

That's also one of the anomalies, for example that particular share was selling circa £1.18 during the day but the 'market price' indicator in the game is stuck at £1.10

Accepting what you say but they quote a market value that logically should be a multiplier of the qty times the price but its nowhere near.

    Thanks for the reply.

  • Sorry to dig this up again but I didn't want to start a new thread. I am confused about something though.

For one of my stocks the market price is £1,60 but when I go to sell it only wants to let me sell at the indicative price of 0.89. Is this a glitch or have I overlooked something? My other stocks allow me to sell at a price the same/similar to the market price?

I appreciate that there is no "price" for shares due to bids and offers and stuff but that surely can be what this is.

Thanks for any help you can give.

I haven't used it but the markets are currently closed so you can't get a real price - could that be it?

Need to give us the market symbol really. Prices can be weird, its an auction system so very obscure stuff you will get strange pricing. I'm pretty sure you arent refering to a ftse100 stock because those prices are too common to differ greatly

All these sim trades are slightly unrealistic. The best one to help you learn is called stockchallenge. It averages the price at starting day of the month and end and cant be manipulated like a simulator can. Plus they give a prize if you guess the five best stocks over a month

I hold them, they are not a tiny company but pretty volatile as they are not producing oil currently I think.

The normal bid offer spread would be less then 2% in normal open hours I think. Ive never seen higher then 15% but its possible

This is a mistake though, bad quotes showing right now. Only the volume here is correct I think [and TRD. HI is good, thats actual deal records]

    Try Yahoo or google

Those two are much closer to the mark but only an actual record of deals will show the real price. Its almost literately like an auction room. If the bidders all went home, the auctioneer may set any price he likes
