AEG Washer Dryer: Warranty

Hi,
I purchased an AEG washer dryer fro Empire Direct in late October 2005. It developed a fault in January 2006 which required a replacement new washing machine being sent. During this I dealy with AEG TotalCare.
Now it has again developed a fault whereby the flood protection tap has a problem. The manual says for the error code I have (EF0) to switch off the appliance, switch off the water feed and call AEG TotalCare.
Anyway I am about to call AEG TotalCare. I recieved the product 13 months ago.
Does the warranty run 12 months from then or 12 months from January when I received a replacement unit?
Is there any way I can get them to fix this for free as I am really annoyed by the reliability and build of this product (cost £500)?
Cheers,
Scott
