We get a lot of weird calls but today someone actually spoke.
He was foreign though and prattled on about being from some organisation that dealt with Windows and viruses.......and would I please turn on my computer. I asked him to send me an email
but he said he must talk me through it. I got rid of him in my usual polite way;) but have a feeling he will be calling me again tomorrow. Has anyone else had calls like this?

Yes - it's a scam.
I told the bloke who called me that I didn't have a computer! :rotfl:0 -
turn off your sound then keep him on the line while you boot up , then ask him what he wants you to do on your UBUNTU PC...........Ex forum ambassador

My dad had a call like this, they want you to go to a web page which will no doubt put some sort of trojan or virus on your PC to give someone else control of it and to steal your bank account info.0

My dad got this call too, luckily I was at his house at the time and answered the phone
My only regret is that I had to go and get the children from school as I would have liked to string him along for a while.
I thanked him profusely and said how lucky I was that he had spotted this problem, gushed at him a bit more and then confused him when I asked if he thought my latest update to linux operating system was the cause. I then handed the phone to my 3 year old to talk to him whilst I got ready to leave for the school run- bit mean really, poor child had done nothing wrong!

I have had three phone calls today from somewhere deep in India telling me that I have virus on my computer due to my broadband. As if they would know what was on my computer? As soon as I mentioned that our family were into computer programming, and that he/she was talking rubbish they hang up. One hung up half way through my first sentence. I am sick of these scams.....just hang up on them.0 -
You should keep the on the line for as long as possible. Then they are not scamming someone else who doesn't know it's a scam.
"Can I put the phone down there's someone at the door" then come back 10 minutes later. Lather rinse repeat.

Got my first ever one of these today, very amusing. When he told me my computer had a virus I asked him to hold while I got some disinfectant to put in it. When he twigged I was playing him along he got rude and suggested I had my *Richard* in my PC.
Finally, I pointed out we had got Bin Laden in the end and he would be next on the list.0 -
They've certainly been busy, I received one of these calls today too. Luckily I was aware it was a scam.:dance:Mash p'tater, mash p'tater:dance:0

I finally got the call today - first got asked if I was happy with my computer, then that "the phone line I was contacting them on now was telling them my computer had viruses" :rotfl: & "did I know what a virus was":D
According to her script this means your Windows computer is full of unwanted files, corrupted files and viruses that'll keep increasing (scaremongering ********):mad:
Decided to have a bit of fun & interupted the next bit of spiel about Windows to claim I didn't have a windows computer
them:This means you use an Apple Mac?
me: no I'm using Linux
them: Red Hat Linux or another one?
(their script isn't very up to date:rotfl: )
They ended the call apologising after I claimed to be using Ubuntu."And suddenly I find myself listening to a man I've never known before,Telling me about the sea..."0
