Windscreen excess
Hi all
I've a crack on the front windcsreen of my 2001 Astra which is moving into the wiper area.
I am comprehensively insured with Admiral with £70 windscreen excess (I think).
I heard a while ago about some windscreen replacement company that saves your excess. Could someone please share their details on here?
I am based in London/ Essex.
Thanks.

You need to check your insurance policy carefully, but what *most* comprehensive policies do is, the excess applies if the windscreen has to be replaced. If it can be repaired, and providing you use their approved repairer ( commonly Autoglass ), then there will be no cost to you.
If you're not clear having looked at your policy documents, then give your insurers a quick call, they'll be able to clarify.
As I say, this is a fairly typical scenario, but each company will be slightly different ( particularly regarding which repair company you must use in order to qualify for the free repair ), so best to check.
As an aside, there are limits as to what can be repaired, and what will mean a replacement will be required. But you'll need the windscreen company to take a look to confirm this.0 -
You might well find that the combination of excess plus future premium loadings could well exceed the cost of you just going to a screen fitter and paying cash for a new screen.
I’d certainly look into that before contacting your insurance company0 -
I'm also with admiral and I'm fairly sure chip repair is free if you do it their way. I don't see how any company could save your excess, unless they inflated their bill to the insurance company and gave you some money, which would of course be fraudulent...0

As you say, the chip repair is free with most companies but it is still a claim that has to be declared in future and so can attract a premium loading0 -

Well said
I was quoted £425 by autoglass for a VW Polo screen 3 months ago... got it done for £120 by a local independent, £20 more than my excess!
Don't forget that this will be classed as a claim on your insurance & will have to be declared...Always try to be at least half the person your dog thinks you are!0
