dmg24 is correct - it depends on the authority. In Merseyside, you can use your disabled or OAP bus pass on buses, trains and ferries. The boundary extends beyond Merseyside as far as Chester in Cheshire and Ormskirk in Lancashire.

I'm in Doncaster and was hoping it extends to say like cleethorpes etc. Ive been disable for 10 years and only just applied for the pass. I had my photo took etc yesterday...should have asked there and then.

Will i get a letter with the pass explaining the terms and cons? I dont want to jump on a train to go 50 mile if I have to pay.

    Looking at:

    http://www.doncaster.gov.uk/living_in_doncaster/homes_and_housing/help_with_housing_costs/mobility_travel_passes.asp

Where can I use my Mobility Travel Pass?

You can use your Mobility Travel Pass on all buses, trams and local train services (standard class travel) within South Yorkshire, except late night services.

You must pay the appropriate ordinary fare for any part of a tram or train journey that is outside South Yorkshire. If you board the train at a staffed station, you must buy your ticket before boarding.

You (and a carer if you qualify for the 'With Carer' Pass) can also travel for free on any off peak local bus journey in England. Off peak is from 9.30am to 11pm Monday to Friday and all day at weekends or bank holidays.

So it would appear free train travel is limited to South Yorkshire only.

    Tally

You do get a leaflet with a map in it usually, and some basic information.

Re Doncaster to Cleethorpes - on a regular single, off-peak ticket on a weekday is £16. Because the next station along from Doncaster is S!!!!horpe in Lincolnshire is reckon you'd be paying quite a lump sum of the £16.

I've found using the concessionary pass very confusing if embarking on a longer journey - also I end up with so many tickets there's always a good chance I'd lose them :s

    p.s It won't accept s-c-u-n-t-h-o-r-p-e! lol

    Thanks for the answers.

That link Tally-ho put up states…you can use any bus in S. Yorkshire when infact you can use any in the country, no?

It also says same about the trains, so can you get on any short journey train? I.e. Doncaster to S!!!!horpe then get on another short distance train free?

    Thanks again.

When I travel from Doncaster, if going out of South Yorkshire, I ask at the ticket offfice at Doncaster Station for a ticket from the last station within the South Yorkshire boundary to my destination. The staff at Doncaster station (and Sheffield as well I have found) are quite used to people asking for this type of ticket to extend their journey beyond the free travel area and I have never had a problem to date.

If you have a disabled railcard it gives a 33% discount of the train tickets out of the county which makes them good value.
