insurance companies to approach direct...

I am due to renew my insurance at the end of this month, and usually I simply go to confused.com, comparethemarket.com and gocompare.com and take the cheapest quote...

I have read that some insurance companies do not quote through these sites, i know direct line and aviva are two that do, does anybody know of anyone else worth trying in my quest to get cheapest possible insurance?

thanks

Lets hope you don't need any service from them - read up on here (and across the net) about them and you will realise why they are so cheap!

Never found Aviva to be cheap. I love how the website asks for your best qoute so far then proudly offers you a premium at an extra £200 anyway.

The chap phoned me up last time I used them and went through the whole thing again and dropped it by £30. Told him before he started it would be a waste of time but he assured me he could be competitive. Ended up getting an apology off him.

Lots of independents don't quote - what car is it? Some owners clubs have good links with firms to get discounts.

Also if you used confused et al you won't get any cash back. Swinton will give you £75 at the minute.

What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?

Ha, Aviva have quoted me £4500... Direct Line £1800... Have done one with compare the market and looking at £1000 so far.

Car is a 2004 Honda Civic, 1.7 diesel. I am 26, 2 years NCB (accident in May 2009 - my fault).

Will try Swinton in a bit, have not had time (as at work) to try confused and gocompare... aviva has put me off going to too many directly... my sister is an ex employee and still gets 20% off, so it would only be £3600 for the year. The car isnt worth that!

I've always had good service from Aviva. Their local approved bodyshop is excellent. Premiums competitive too - I guess I must fit the profile fo driver they're looking to attract!

If only there was a handy guide to getting car insurance quotes.

The likes of Flux, I thought, were more geared towards specialist/performance/classic/imported cars.
