Joint mortgage - partner has good credit history but low salary

My partner and I want to purchase a buy to let property and had intended to make a joint mortgage application. We have both had a mortgage before (separately) and have always made repayments of loans and credit cards on time and therefore have a good credit history. I therefore thought neither of us should suffer from being financially associated with the other.

However, my salary at 69k is much higher than my partner's at 18k. This will not be a problem with the mortgage we are applying for. However, before making a joint application, I would be grateful for advice on whether my becoming financially associated with my partner, in light of his salary, could have a negative impact on my ability to get credit in the future?

Thanks in advance.

  • No impact at all as a result of salary (other issues - actual credit status - can affect)
