Closing FD current account..how long should it take?

Closed the account by sending a letter (and cut-up debit card) on 15th November. Haven't heard anything from them about closure. Any1 recommend how long I should wait until I contact them again?

  • I'd contact them stright away. Even if they haven't closed your account yet they should have acknowledged immediately that you were trying to close the account and give you information about what was to happen next.

Sent them a message today via my on-line log-in. If they don't reply is there anything else I can do?

If there is nothing in the account and you have not been using it as your main account then what is your rush? I imagine the FD account closure department is rather busy at the moment.

If it is your main account you should have asked your new bank to initiate a transfer process for you.

I asked them to close my account 21 days ago and still not done and no response from them. FD isn't my main bank anymore, so I don't care, but I thought I'd just wait and see how long it really does take. If it gets to 30 days then I'll call and moan at them! :)

I got a message from them today saying that sorry for the delay but they are dealing with a high number of closures at the moment, and they advise customers 21 days since putting in the request. As it's already been 21 days since putting in my request I reckon the account should be closed by January 2007. I replied back explaining that it's already been 21 days and maybe they should get more staff to help out with the account closures :)

I'm not too bothered how long it takes as I don't use the account anymore, but just thought I'd give a heads up for anyone who needs money from the account or are switching - I'd get the other bank to deal with it as then it wont take 21+ days.
